Guidelines for preparing English Project Portfolios

Dear Students,

Your project tasks and home assignments are a major part of your Internal Assessment. The marks you earn here will directly affect your final results.

A record file is not just a bunch of papers tied together. It shows your hard work, your academic discipline, your sincerity and how much you respect your studies. Writing carelessly, skipping the cover page, or submitting messy work shows a lack of effort. Messy or incomplete files will not be accepted. To maintain uniformity and quality, everyone must strictly adhere to the following rules before submitting their record files. Read the rules below carefully and make sure your file is perfect before you hand it in.

1. The Cover Page is Mandatory

Every submission must feature a clean, professional front cover. Hand-written or printed covers are both acceptable, but they must include:

  • Top: Name of the School
  • Center: Title of the Project
  • Bottom Left: Submitted By (Your Name, Class, Roll Number, and Section)
  • Bottom Right: Submitted To (Teacher's Name, Signature)
  • Bottom Middle:  Date of Submission

(See the sample of the cover page at the end)

2. Standardized File & Paper Formatting

  • The File: Use a standard plastic or cardboard clip/channel record file. Loose sheets or torn pages will not be accepted.
  • Paper Quality: Use neat, white A4-sized paper.
  • Margins: Maintain 1.25 inch margin on left and 1 inch margin on other three sides of the page. It makes your work look organized.

3. Handwriting and Neatness

  • Handwritten Only: All composition tasks must be completely handwritten. Printed tasks will not be accepted.
  • Legibility: Your writing must be neat and easily readable. Careless scribbling will result in an immediate deduction of neatness marks.

·         Ink: Use standard black ink for the text.

·         Single-Side Writing: Write only on one side of each A4 sheet. Writing on both sides can make the ink bleed through, making your composition difficult to read.

·         Task Headings: Start every new task on a fresh page. Copy the question of the task at the top of the page.

  • Corrections: Avoid excessive scratching or overwriting. If you make a mistake, draw a single neat line through it.

4. Content and Language Standards

  • Originality: Composition tests your creative and critical thinking skills. Direct copying from the internet, AI tools, or your classmates will result in a zero score.
  • Word Count: Pay attention to the word limits specified for each composition task.
  • Proofreading: Before filing your page, read it once to check for basic grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and punctuation.

5. Strict Deadlines and Accountability

  • Punctuality: Assignments must be submitted on or before the announced deadline.
  • Late Submissions: Late submissions without a valid, pre-approved reason (like medical emergencies) may not be accepted at all.
  • Incomplete Work: Bringing a file without a cover page or missing tasks will be treated as non-submission.

6. No Excessive Decoration (Keep it Professional)

Your cover page must look formal, clean, and academic. It should look like a college report, not an art assignment. Remember: Simplicity earns marks; messiness loses them.

7. Filing Sequence

  • Neat Filing: Pages must be clean, unwrinkled, and securely attached inside the file in the correct order.
  • Filing Order: Assemble your record file strictly in this sequence:
  1. Cover Page (First page)
  2. Task 1
  3. Task 2
  4. Task 3
  5. Task 4
